Rowing and sculling courses in Cambridge

Why 'fundraising bootcamps'? We run bootcamps and 1:1 coaching sessions to raise money for race travel and entry fees - like the World Masters Championships. Thank you all bootcampers for helping us get there! A proportion of every coaching fee also goes to our kind hosts.

The coaches  speak many languages and have great experience in running courses for for non-english speaking rowers including Chinese. 

Junior Bootcamps


We are running our successful course for 11 - 18 years old children on various levels over the school holidays. We run courses most school holiday depending on our coaches availability.

The course is introducing and improving a rowing technique and all necessary skills to your child with lots of fun. We have maximum of 4 children per coach for making sure that they are safe and have an opportunity to work with all participant individually.

Level 1 course - 
taster course with basic rowing skills and technique for beginners. 

Level 2 course -
developing rowing skills, technique and athleticism for children who previously attended on tasting course and have some rowing experience. 

Level 3 course - 

competence and confidence in the single scull. Prepare for joining a Development squad. 


We try any run the session with small groups of children of similar level so we may ask you to move to a session before or after the one you have booked.

Learn 2 Row / Scull 

Do you want to learn to row? Is this your first time rowing? Have you only tried it a couple of times? Have you done a little bit of sweep oar rowing and want to try sculling.

You will be provided with all the basic skills you need to start enjoying rowing/sculling. Over the period of the course, depending on your experience, we will cover:

  • the terminology of rowing/sculling, 
  • how to row safely (how to lift a boat, how to get the boat on and off the water, the traffic rules on the Cam)
  • basic rowing technique on the rowing machine
  • technical skills on the water to suit your experience
  • get you ready to be signed off so you will be allowed to take a single out on your own in your club

Sweep 2 Scull

Are you rowing in a crew boat? Do you want to take your rowing to the next level? Would you like to learn to scull? 

You will have a short assessment at the beginning of the course to ensure we fully understand your rowing level and can accommodate your needs accordingly. We will look at your general rowing technique (using the erg) as well as your fitness and your flexibility, as these play an important role in your development as a sculler. We will make suggestions for a suitable focus or we are happy to follow your requests and the course will also cover:

  • basic sculling skills and moving the boat efficiently
  • how to scull safely (how to lift a boat, how to get the boat on and off the water, the traffic rules on the Cam)
  • build your confidence in boat balance and handling
  • how to manoeuvre the boat effectively 
  • get you ready to be signed off so you will be allowed to take a single out on your own in your club

Intermediate Sculling

You can already scull but like to improve your confidence and competence in the single scull or in a double and maybe even start working towards your first race.

You will have a short assessment at the beginning of the course to ensure we fully understand your rowing level and can accommodate your needs accordingly. We will look at your general rowing technique as well as your fitness and your flexibility to be able to suggest areas of improvement.

  • how to move the boat efficiently
  • advanced balance and handeling
  • technical skills

Racing

We help scullers and rowers prepare for key events including the Pairs Head, Sculllers Head and Fours Head, plus winter heads and the full summer regatta program in the UK and abroad..

You will have a short interview with one of the coaches so we can understand your aim and your current ability level . We will evaluate your technical skill as well as your fitness and your flexibility. We will work with on the following:

  • how to move the boat efficiently
  • how to set up the boat effectively (rigging)
  • race preparation and race tactics 
  • video analysis 
If you have signed up to the Cambridge Rowing Bootcamps as a crew we will work on moving the boat faster together.

We have coaches that have raced at international level who are very happy to share their experiences with you and help you to race faster.

from £40 p session,
